I am happy to announce that the Chill Spin Skillz Exchange will be returning to Transformus 08!

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.

So what do you have to share?

  • I would like to teach some hooping workshops this year. I am happy to teach a basic workshop but I'd also like to teach a class specific to HoopDANCE, integrating dance into hooping. It feels to me like a lot of people get very "trick-oriented" in their hooping and I think that sometimes inhibits flow. I'd also like to highlight the integration of dance styles from flamenco, bellydance, bollywood, hip hop, contemporary and classical Indian dance. The moves I would include are gender-neutral and appropriate for both males and females. Would anyone be interested in a class like this?

I could also help out with poi classes if needed.
    • im totally interested in a hoopdance class like that. I like tricks and all, but Im having most fun when i just dance and let the music tell me what to do. But learning a couple new flows from one place to another is so so fun! Ive been practicing a lot of front vertical hooping transitions of late, keeping the hoop in the same place as i run all around and through it :) Just had one of my best fire hoop routines ever at the Alchemy FUNdraiser party this weekend....and fire hooping in front of a thousand hippies at Bonnaroo with the Art of SuchNSuch was a total rush! I could help teach basic hooping at some point.

My main skill is juggling, but specifically flow juggling on the dancefloor!. Like you say, so many folks are trick oriented. Well, im less technical than many, but I can flow glo-juggle on the dancefloor like few Ive seen. Id be happy to teach some juggling skills, a circus art that doesnt seem to get as much attention in burner circles, and can demo my fire juggling equipment too, but I'm too up in the air to pin down a schedule at this point. I'll float by your camp when I arrive in Mysteria. I find most beginning jugglers take a good long while to get it down, so beginner classes go slow but are likely where most folks are at. I'd be happy to teach a few techniques I have to people that have the basic cascade down :)
