Florida PreHeat Tier 1 Invites now available

Howdy Campers!

Without further adieu, PreHeat is now taking donations for event invitations!

Tier 1 is limited to 250 invites or Midnight 12/30.

<http://www.floridapreheat.com/tickets.htm>

What is PreHeat?

PreHeat is place where Burners from various cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies gather to participate in a temporary community filled with interactive art, music, and radical self expression. It is a place that exists only because those that attend choose to create it and is a direct expression of their collective and diverse visions. PreHeat is an official Regional Burn and as such the 10 Principles of Burning Man act as the cornerstone of PreHeat, but our expression of those principles extends far beyond the Playa.

There is no definition for Participation, rather it is up to each individual to determine its meaning to him and to appreciate the interpretations of others. Some choose to gift handmade trinkets, some gift their art or talent, and some their time; whatever form it takes the only common thread is that it is about sharing of yourself with your community and having the freedom to do so in whatever way you are comfortable.

Community, participation, self-expression, self-reliance, and generosity of heart are the lifeblood of the Burning Man community. Welcome to PreHeat!

PreHeat 2009 is scheduled for April 17 - 19, 2009.

Hugs,
Storm

First, there's a page on the Alchemy website (HERE: http://www.alchemyfestival.com/participation/2009_Candidates.html) where you can post info about yourself, so people know who you are. I've already posted mine, so you can see an example. If you want to have your info posted, please email Rebecca (me!) at rebecca@alchemyfestival.com, with whatever info you want posted, and I'll go put up (or I'll ask someone to do it, if I'm away at Afterburn). If the page gets too long, we may have to switch to links. Second, you can post on one of the Alchemytalk list, and let people know who you are and why you are interested in running. Third, you can show up at the Town Hall and announce your intention of running.

You have to be at the Town Hall to run, EVEN IF you have already announced you're interested beforehand.

Thanks for your participation!

(Hard House)

A Hardhouse Legend! Venom has graced the decks of some of the largest events in the World, and to many, is the #1 Hard House DJ/Producer in the country! DJ Venom has been playing the rave circuit since the early 90's. This veteran has gained notoriety with his superb track selection and his award winning scratching skills. He has produced over 71 mixtapes and CDs, including the infamous Straight Bangin series. His scratching skills have earned him two 2nd place finishes at the Winter Music Conference DJ Competitions in 1998 and 1999. . His specialty is hard house, ghetto booty house, and his own style and label: 'retro-tech', a modern version of old school techno, breakbeat and jungle. He continues to break barriers, producing and playing tracks that add a new dimension to the music scene. Few put on a performance quite like Venom.

Featuring an unusual dynamic interaction of live percussion, guitar, keyboards, vocals and programmable audio, their shows have set a fire all across the country with their unique brand of 'Drum N Breaks.' While DJs are known for bringing music to the party, DEAD P.A. is bringing back the party to music. An emphasis on performance (rather than standing behind gear and pumping a fist once in a while) has generated comparison to a concert atmosphere and has consistently won over even the 'cliquiest' of music-lovers.
Angel F & Eric Marquez
(First Atlanta Appearance)

Their releases have been spun in the world's top clubs including DC10, Pacha, Space, Crobar and more by some of the world's top Djs including Bad Boy Bill, Tiesto, and Dj Dan to name a few. Now in their third year running their own label, Direct Drive Digital they have impacted the EDM community in a massive way and are one of the top selling labels on beatport. These two are not to be missed on the decks, as they drop a style that is their own and uniquely Chicago.

Electronic fire and nuclear mass destruction is Embersreich's theme. Obscure sample sound treatments, dark ambient soundscapes, and a throbbing beat are joined by onstage theatrics and pyrotechnics to create a soundtrack for the end of the world.

ahem. I was wondering if you would spread the word about our Alabama Burn. It started last year because we were too poor to go to BM. This year we're still too poor so we're doing it again! Here's our humble pr so far, hope you can help build our community:

Greetings Flamers! We're doing it again! We had at least 6 people at last year's event, and we're looking to break some records at Burning Ham Arts Festival 2.

Come out to support and promote the local Burning Man community, if you're not going to the desert. Last year we danced, sang, heard local performers, burned a small effigy, and participated amongst interesting folk!

Bring your art, music, dance, food, water, tent, pets, and kids if you must, and camp out at the Pioneer Campground at Oak Mountain State Park, Birmingham, Alabama, August 29- Sept 1. Or just show up on Labor Day for the Big Burn.
How much? Three bucks, cheap.

Camping Reservations and information: e-mail to burningmanbirmingham@hotmail.com

Ride available to BRC and back

I have one seat left for the ride out and back to BRC. We'll leave Tuesday the 19th so that we can be in Reno to pick up some friends flying in on Saturday (plus food and supply shopping). The plan is to arrive on the playa early (like 12:30 am early) on Monday. We'll leave BRC the following Monday morning and make our way back across the US in another 4 or 5 days. We're gonna be towing a trailer so there will [hopefully] be plenty of room for bikes and supplies.

it's getting close!!

We're still pumped up from Transformus, and would love to make some fire happen in the backyard, as well as meet more members of our wonderful community.
If you're in the Athens area, or would like to be, send me a PM for my home address. We'll start the grill around 7. I'll provide coleslaw, potato salad, and other such fixins. You bring your fire toys, and whatever you want to throw on the grill.

Atlanta, Ga 30308

PANGEA ROOM

Bioluminescence LIVE PA (Tribal Trance) – First Atlanta Appearance!
(Pangea)
Pangea Productions/Pure Perception
Bioluminescense is the exciting collaboration of DJ’s Kameleon & Labyrinth. In their own worlds they concoct hypnotic journeys that have made people move for many years, but when their powers combined they bring together a refreshing new sound. Combining influences from many years of collecting, DJing, and producing electronic music, their sound is deep, driving, and brings new ideas to classic progressive sequencing. The two have been working hard in the studio making sure each track is full of life, with a truly organic feel.

Jackson (Tech-House) – First Atlanta Appearance!
(San Francisco, CA)
Fork/Jacksondeep.com
For the past eight years, Jackson has been making waves in the San Francisco underground for his ability to blend the alien sounds of techno with the raw funk of house music. Taking from an eclectic array of influences, from industrial body beat to emo- tech, Jackson's infectious tech-house sets have only one goal – taking control of your body.

Wichdokta (Psytrance)
(Ukiah, CA)
Geomagnetic
The Wichdokta's sets are something of a spectacle to witness, his amazing energy and sinister music go hand in hand to give you the ride of your life on the dancefloor. Along with throwing the infamous GEMINI gatherings, he has been hailed as one of the top DJ's in San Francisco and has played with some of the best in the industry.

Kameleon & Labryinth (Progressive Psy)
Pan13 (DnB)
(West Palm Beach, FL)
Quick Dance Floor Reactionary Force / Duende Artist Promotion
Pan 13’s devastating mix of Techstep, Neuro, and Wobble has been burning up dance floors from South Florida to New York for over a decade, and now this veteran has come to ignite the underground! From early illegal parties to his three-year residency at Respectable Street (the longest standing dance club in the Southeast) to Ft. Drum, New York (the only Drum and Bass monthly in U.S. Military history), South Florida’s Original Selecta will bring the pressure like no other!

The Secret Life – LIVE PA (IDM/Experimental)
Nophi Recordings
The Secret Life have been rocking shows all over the southeast since 2005. Like Boards of Canada after a case of PBR, their signature sound "Peachtree Industrial" features chunky breakbeats, grimy synths and distorted atmospherics. Since the release of their album "The Great Book of Mysterys" they have been using improvisation to transform their tracks into something new and unique for every show. The Secret Life is a secret no longer!
Mountain Holler - Volume 3, Issue 7 - July, 2008

I'd like to start with my apologies for lack of communication over the last few months. Lots of excuses, but none worthy of such lack of action, so I will just say that I am sorry. Moving forward…and that is to be the new theme of all things Transformus.

In this issue:

* Don't Get Bilked by this Scam!
* Ice…Ice…Baby
* Help feed those who are helping build Mysteria, Wednesday 7/16 and Thursday 7/17
* Thanks to K-Lo and Stan Devi
* No Bathing in the Lakes
* Theme Camp Registration Closed June 30th. Where Are You Camping?
* Volunteer Needs Sanctuary, Rangers, EMS, FRT, and others
* Disability Camping Permits and Critical TC Vehicles Need to Contact Us with Information.
* Parking and Gate
* Weekly Transformus Chat Room – Sundays at 8 PM
* RV and Camper Policy
* A Word on Mutant Vehicles from Mr. Kitten
* TiTs Call for Events/Happenings in Your Camp
* Lost and Found and Center Stage

A SCAMMER PREYS UPON US – BUYERS BEWARE!

In case you do not subscribe to the discussion group, we have found evidence of a scammer in Pennsylvania that has sold bunko invites to a number of Mysterians that are hoping to come to the mountain in 2 weeks. If you have been in contact with amp@posthead.com or aphemix@gmail.com or made a payment for what you believed were legitimate invites to the PayPal account of DebiVO63@yahoo.com Please contact us immediately at llc@transformus.com. We are aware of at least 6 people that were bilked out of their money for bogus codes, and are looking into legal options available to anyone he has scammed. If you were one of the unfortunate that did fall prey to this bottom sucking individual and want to take action, please contact merritt@transformus.com or jace@transformus.com, they are both working to find all options available for victims in our community.

A new system for invite code transfers has been developed. Please contact invites@transformus.com for verification of any purchased invites. It is our sincere belief that most people selling their invites via the "classified" page on the website are operating in good faith, but Reality Camp rears its ugly head from time to time.

If you have already purchased invites second hand, we are requesting that everyone that has bought gate codes have them transferred into their own account on transformus.com. To do this just email jace@transformus.com. Make sure you have the following included in the email you send: your name, your email, sellers name, sellers email and gate codes.

If you would like more information on this thief, contact merritt@transformus.com or jace@transformus.com. Computer wizards are going to rule the world just by the information they are able to glean in cyberspace.

ICE…ICE…BABY!! YEAH THE ICEMAN COMETH

Having heard a loud voice from the Transformus Community that ICE is a necessary commodity, there will be ice available at Transformus on Saturday morning at the turn around; where Gate was located in the past. Do not think of this as an invitation to buy ALL your ice at the event, but rather as a means to supplement your ice supply.

An ice trailer will be available on Saturday morning between the hours of 9am and Noon We will be doing pre-sales of ice from now until Tuesday Noon, July 15th. There will be NO ICE SALES at the trailer on Saturday morning, so it's best to purchase your ice in advance.

THANKS TO K-LO AND STAN DEVI
K-Lo and Stan Devi have both resigned from their positions on the Transformus BOD. Kelly because of requirements of her new job, and Stan for health reasons. We would like to thank them both for their years of service, and wish them only the best for their future. Currently the following persons serve on the Transformus BOD:

* G8Kpr
* WordPlay
* Vespa
* Ms. Kitten
* Dave the Rave or DTR

THE LAKES ARE FOR SWIMMING, NOT FOR BATHING
NO SOAP OF ANY KIND IN THE PONDS!!!!!!
For real, I don't care if you rendered the veggie oils yourself from veggies grown in your all organic garden.

The ponds are part of the headwaters of the local rivers and as such are governed by very strict state laws and guidelines. They are also the local community's water source, and peeing in them or soaping them up is not in the best community interest.

So Please - Use only Dr. Bronner's and other all natural, no chemical or petrol or lye containing, soaps. Do all your actual soaping/bathing/rinsing on the land using buckets of water to rinse off. After you are all rinsed off, you can go back in the ponds for dipping fun and that fully fresh feeling. THANK YOU!!!!

And this addition from Sinnamon:

I personally stay away from soaps as much as possible out in the wilderness because when you think you smell all sweet and clean, so do the bugs. I always recommend scrubbing down really well two days before departure, then the day before – wash, but don't use soap or shampoo and eat foods with a ton of garlic in it, or straight garlic so that it gets into your blood stream. Vampires and mosquitoes don't like garlic. I find this to be pretty effective because I can't stand using bug sprays. So you may have a little funk….it's natural. I find that just being in the waters is clean enough – no soap needed. You can use some of the natural clays as an exfoliate too – I believe the "mud people" last year can attest to this. That night they were all very shiny.

Transformus is only a few days. If you HAVE to be that clean, then bring some of those baby wipes or something similar to get the pits and crotch. It's not much trash or they can be burned (do NOT put them in the port-a-potty!)

Another thing you can do is wash on a tarp or baby pool and then let the water evaporate during the day. That way the crud left behind can be taken away. I've seen folks do that on the playa too, and it seems to work pretty well.

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED:
SANCTUARY
Transformus is just around the corner, and we are in need of Sanctuary volunteers!

What is Sanctuary exactly???

Sanctuary acts as an emotional safety net for the Transformus community by providing a safe space and support for participants who need to work through emotional challenges. Sanctuary is a facet of the Transformus infrastructure which works closely with Rangers and EMS.

It is Sanctuary's vision to provide a space of refuge for participants in need 24/7 during Transformus. The heart of Sanctuary is our volunteers. Sanctuary volunteers do not have to have experience - just a desire to help others in need. Volunteers must also attend a Sanctuary training, demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities and duties of a sanctuary volunteer, and be willing to sign up for at least one four hour shift!

It is Sanctuary's vision to demonstrate a compassionate model of community which cares for all of its citizens with love and understanding, during Transformus and beyond!

What do I have to do to volunteer???

Last year was the first official year of Sanctuary and we had approximately 15 volunteers. We are working towards having approximately 30 volunteers this year in order to facilitate Sanctuary becoming a more sustainable model within the Transformus community. In other words, the more volunteers we have, the more evenly the work load is spread out!

Similarly to last year, we are asking all volunteers to attend the hour long Sanctuary training, and sign up for at least one 4 hour shift. We are also looking for 2 volunteers to help with set up and break down of camp.

We are looking for 3 people to be on the Crisis Intervention team. The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is the backbone of Transformus Sanctuary. CIT's are experienced Sanctuary volunteers who will lead the Sanctuary training, and will be available for on-call shifts during Transformus to offer support for emergency situations.

We are also seeking a Sanctuary co-lead…specifically, someone who might be able to be a member of the CIT as well. The responsibilities would be to coordinate the CIT, help with pre-Transformus organization, and help support Sanctuary at Transformus. Please let me know if you are interested. This will most likely be my last year organizing Sanctuary, so I hope to be able to train the co-lead to take over next year!

If you have tickets to Transformus, and are interested in volunteering for Sanctuary, please email me! (sanctuaryinstorm@hotmail.com) It will be simple for you to link in. Also, if you know of anyone who has a ticket and would be a good match for Sanctuary, please give them my email, or ask them if you can give me theirs. The time is ripe for gaining volunteers!!!

Abigail
Aka Ranger Day'va
sanctuaryinstorm@hotmail.com

RANGERS, EMS, AND FIRE RESPONSE TEAM
We are still in need of Rangers, EMS and FRT volunteers to fill critical infrastructure roles. If you are interested in working with these vital safety teams, contact:

* EMS contact Kristal Light at http://www.transformus.com/contact/index.php?team=16
* Rangers contact Diva Tasha or Mayhem at http://www.transformus.com/contact/index.php?team=9

Volunteer now to become a Transformus Ranger!

The Transformus Rangers are a cross-section of Mysteria who volunteer some of their time in the role of non-confrontational community mediators, handling conflict by attempting to communicate and reach compromises before Deerfields Security is needed. Rangers address situations that would otherwise require outside intervention. Rangers also promote awareness of potential danger, from sunstroke, dehydration, fire and safety issues, personal injury, illness, potential hazards associated with faulty structural design, camp layout, camp location, as well as dealing with lost and disoriented individuals. Rangers are emphatically *not* security, but rather coordinate with EMS and FRT to ensure proper fast response in the event of emergencies.

Prerequisites: To become a Ranger, you must attend the Ranger training early in the day on Friday at Transformus, should have attended at least one burn prior to Transformus 08, and must work a "mentoring shift" with an experienced Ranger for your first shift. Helpful qualities include a sense of humor, flexibility, a water canteen, and a good pair of walking shoes.

Contact Rangers at for more info • FRT volunteers contact Vespa at http://www.transformus.com/contact/index.php?team=13 Please remember that Transformus only happens with the help of all our Volunteers. If you have not yet signed up for a volunteer shift, log in on the web page and be a participant rather than a spectator. You can do so at: http://www.transformus.com/community For other questions about Volunteering, contact Team Co-Leads Rocki and Southern Buddha at volunteers@transformus.com Not sure about how you can help, or want to wait until you've got the "lay of the land?" Come by the Volunteer Table on Center Stage to learn more about who needs what, where, after you get your tent set up. Thanks

A WORD FROM THEME CAMP COORDINATION TEAM AND DISABILITIES LIAISON
Theme camps that require a vehicle on site during the event for the functioning of their TC must contact the Theme Camp Coordination Team (themecamps@transformus.com). Only vehicles which are an integral part of the theme camp are allowed to stay on the Deerfield's property during Transformus. By "integral" we mean only those vehicles that either provide power for camp needs or serve as sleep spaces for folks without tents. The Gate will be given your information upon submission. Only approved vehicles will be allowed to stay on site.

DISABLED MYSTERIANS
Also, if you are a Mysterian with a disability that needs to camp with your vehicle as an accommodation to enjoy a safe and pleasant time at Transformus, contact WordPlay at wordplay@chwdog.com with the same information requested below: Full name, last 4 digits of your Gate Code and the Maike and Model of the car you wish to camp with. Thanks

PARKING AND GATE
Hello All,

The Parking Team Co-leads, Raeosun and Myself, are excited and very appreciative to those of you who have signed up for volunteering this year. We have worked our butts off to try to put together a team that can be as efficient as possible this year. We are new to these positions but we hope to provide some fresh air and plenty of support.

It is important for all of you to know that we will all be required to Park in Satellite Parking located in a Private Field before entering the Owl Gates at Deer Fields. All Theme Camps and Early Arrivals must move their vehicles to satellite parking by Thursday pm. We will have a shuttle scheduled to help with transporting people back to the main camp ground.

Also, we plan to have the same Shuttle, Lazoom Bus, for shuttling people followed by a U-haul for shuttling gear during the scheduled Gate hrs. Everyone is encouraged to condense your packing. Please use totes that can be easily stacked and mark your belongings. Please reframe from bringing belongings or groceries in open bags, EVERYTHING will be packed in tightly to transport as many people as we can at a time (appr. 40.) After entering the Gates via Lazoom, all will be dropped off at another station (also the DMT Garage area) where various MVs (Mutant Vehicles) will be encouraged to help shuttle you in further. You may also bring and share a wheel barrel, cart, wagon, dolly, or any other device that may help people move their belongings into Mysteria. This is highly encouraged to keep up the pace and of course help one another as a community. We will need a few people to help with loading and unloading these belongings to help make this as fast and smooth as possible. Please get in touch with DMT if you think you could help be a "loader."

As for the mentioned Parking Team duties and needs, we still need approximately 24 volunteers to fill shifts that are only 2 and 3 hrs. long. Your job as part of Parking Team will be fairly simple, however, extremely important. As folks arrive, they will verify Gate Codes at Gate first. If there is more than one person in the vehicle, 1 of those people will be dropped off with all their gear while the other(s) go to park. The Parking Team will be located 1. at beginning of Gate, 2. some where in the middle, 3. at current parking spot to park. There will be a team of atleast 4 volunteers with one Shift Lead per Shift. A shift lead is one person who will be in charge of the Radio, who can contact Parking Leads if necessary, or EMS and Rangers in case of an emergency. They will also be the person who educates the new volunteers that may want to help, with what needs are present. We have someone bringing signs to also help and Parking Team Volunteers will wear vests to help with identification. You may wear costumes as well, as long as you can throw your vest on top. Remember, when Parking it is easy for a line to gradually get out of order so, we encourage volunteers to pay close attention to getting vehicles in as close as possible, still allowing room for departure, but keeping all lines as tight and orderly as you can. There will also be a designated section for larger vehicles, etc.

We cut back the original shift hrs to make it easier for everyone and also provide more time for people to split up their volunteering if they would like to volunteer for more than one shift or Team. You must go to www.transformus.com/community to volunteer. Some of you may already be in the system, but please check and make sure that you are logged in and info is correct. Waterfall and the Web Team have been working very hard on the new volunteer system and we think it is GREAT! You will now be able to look at all the Teams and their needs. You will be able to see what teams need the most help and what shifts are open or full and who is also volunteering. Please encourage others to check the site to see all the new updates. It's still a new system, and has had a few glitches that have been fixed, but so far it's a great tool to be active and view others who are participating as well. Also, if there is a team that you would like to participate in and they have not posted a schedule yet, email that team directly. It has taken a some teams a little longer to get their info up.

As always, I encourage your questions and suggestions. We hope to be a TEAM this year, with many individuals bringing their spark to the flame. Greeters, Gate, DMT, and Parking Team will all be working together to keep things running smoothly. If you see that a team needs your help, fill free to fill that gap. We are only as strong as our weakest members. Let's make Transformus 08 a model of how an "experimental community" can come together for one another in a beautiful time and space.

Please email parking@transformus.com for specific questions regarding the Parking Team.

And from Kara, our Gate Team Co-Lead…
The wiki schedule for Gate Shifts is finally up and running! You can go add yourself to any of the available shifts now (http://www.transformus.com/community/view_schedule.php?t=27). Working the Gate is fun, easy, and a great way to spend 3 hours (or more) during Transformus. As the first person Mysterians see upon arriving at Deerfields and before entering the gates, your smiling face and information will help welcome our friends - whether it's their first time or family returning "home"!

Want to help out a little bit more? If you fit the bill, the Co-Lead/LLC/Bod Member positions and the Shift Lead positions (1 each for each gate shift) entail more responsibility than regular Volunteer positions. Both of these call for someone who has been, or will be, trained and mentored ahead of time, and someone who is extremely reliable and responsible. This person should be specially chosen by either Debra or myself; thus I have each of these positions marked as "contact us to apply for this position."

Weekly Transformus Chat – Sunday, 8pm
Ok, so I will be the first to admit, last week was a MESS. I sucked as a moderator, the crowd sucked at shutting up, certain people sucked for not showing up and not facing certain questions people had for them, the chatroom sucked for having colors, etc, etc. So, here are some lessons in chat etiquette.

* Even if you moderator is an idiot, he is still trying, so how about trying with him?
* When the chat session is a group question and answer hour, don't jibber jabber the whole time, it is rude.
* If the chatroom software gives you options such as text colors and background colors, and someone uses a color you don't like, suck it up and change your background color.

Fact remains, you can't please everyone, so just try and please yourself and get on with it! This weeks chat is going to be MUCH different…there are no guests of honor like last week (the BOD) and there is no set topic or theme. This week we just want as many Mysterians as possible to come together and talk, talk til your fingers are sore. If you are not familiar with the chat software we suggest coming early and playing, or going there right now and testing it out. The chat room doors are always open, just head to:

http://chat.transformus.com
Town Hall Meeting - Every Sunday 8pm EST

DMT LEAD, MR. KITTEN, WITH INFO ON OUR R.V. POLICY
Please also familiarize yourself with RV restrictions. RV Policy - Transformus 2008

All of our parking will be offsite this year. What does that mean for RV's, campers, and vehicles that are integral parts of theme camps? Allowable campers (described below) can enter the event and park onsite if 1. they are an integral part of your camp and 2. they arrive before 8:30 pm Thursday night.

Technically, many classes of vehicles are "RV's", further divided into Class A, B, and C motor homes, fifth wheel trailers, travel trailers, folding trailers, and truck campers.

See: www.recreationworld.com/rv-terms/index.htm for more clarification.

The land cannot accommodate Class A or Class C motor homes, full size buses, or fifth wheel trailers. We can accommodate Class B motor homes (otherwise known as conversion vans, or van campers), panel trucks, truck campers, and any drivable (as in not towed) vehicle under 23' in length. We can accommodate travel trailers and folding trailers up to 20' in length as long as they are towed with a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

If you have any questions about whether your vehicle can be accommodated at Transformus 2008, please e-mail the Board of Directors at llc@transformus.com.

We realize that some participants may need larger vehicles to transport essential items.

Large utility trucks and trailers necessary to transport Theme Camp, Team building supplies, or art installations will be accommodated to transport items into the event, as long as they arrive prior to 8:30 pm on Thursday night. Please contact the Transformus Board of Directors at llc@transformus.com if you have any questions.

AND MORE FROM MR. KITTEN…
The Dept. of Mutant Transportation needs your help! Check out the community volunteering website and volunteer! We have need for people to inspect Mutant Vehicles (MVs) as well as people who are bringing MVs to the event to help provide some shuttling services around Mysteria. As most of you know, there will be satellite parking this year, which means all gear and people will be brought in and dropped off at a central location. Part of DMT's job will be to assist these people to get them and their stuff to where it needs to be.

Just a quick note to all Mysterians planning on bringing a Mutant Vehicle (MV) to Transformus this year.

1) At your earliest convenience, after arrival, checking in, getting spanked, pitching camp, and drinking a beverage, bring your MV by the Mutant Garage for a quick tech inspection and OK by the Mutant Mechanics. There is no pre-registration, and honestly, if you can't pass our inspection, well, you really probably wouldn't be able to build an MV in the first place. We basically want to see that the MV a) is actually a MUTANT vehicle, and not just a golf kart painted pink, and b) that this MV of yours isn't going to unlease plague, dismemberment, or general malaise (specific malaise is acceptable) upon the population of Mysteria. Oh, and it should have working brakes and be well lit (for nighttime use)

2) If you have an MV, please use it to help those who are MV-less bring their stuff from the LaZoom drop-off (At the Deer Gates, just before the fork in the road by the cabins) to wherever they are camping. Sign up for MV driver shifts on the volunteer portion of the web site.

That is all.

TITS NEED YOUR INFO AND YOUR HELP
Hello Mysterians! TiTs needs you!

What are TiTs? We're the Transformus Information Transmission Squad, and all of your public information should be shared with us.

Please send us your theme camp descriptions, and your 'What, Where, When' info so we can compile it for all Mysteria's perusal at the TiTs Info Desk at Center Camp on the pavilion and at each neighborhood Info Kiosk.

Also, please take a moment to sign up to volunteer! Transformus doesn't happen without you. Volunteer schedule is now up on the website: click here to sign up. Positions are only 3 hours, generally low-impact, and fun!

* TiTs Info @ the Pavilion - Just hang out at the Info Desk with a friend and handle the flow of info from Mysterians, volunteers, Team Leads, and Town Criers. Handle Lost and Found. Coordinate with the Volunteer Desk to get people active in our community when and where we need people. This is a vital part of our city, and it doesn't even take that much time or effort!
* TiTs Town Criers - Run around Mysteria collecting info from Theme Camps and Team Leads about events or volunteer needs. Post info on Info Kiosks at the entrance to each of Mysteria's neighborhoods. Use a bullhorn for roving announcements and general attention getting. Report back to the Info Desk.
* TiTs Kiosk Erection - Getting to Mysteria early? We'll need help getting the Info Kiosks up on Thursday morning/afternoon. Bring your muscles and a friend's muscles, and get oogled by ladies as your strapping sexiness hoists an information station aloft. All you Toolbelt Divas, we'll have men there to do a bit of cat-calling and wolf whistling too…because isn't that what the construction worker experience is all about?
* TiTs Kiosk Decker-Outers - Getting to Mysteria early, but aren't too sure about manual labor? We still need you to attach the maps and info binders, draw in the Theme Camp locations, and slap on the velcro secured lights. Easy peasy!

LOST AND FOUND AND CENTER STAGE
Lost and Found will be located at the TiTs Table on Center Stage again this year. There are still a few items found last year that have not found their way home as of yet. If you find an item, lost on the mountain and searching for its rightful owner. Help it out, pick it up, and bring it to Center Camp. We will keep it safe and try to help it get back home.. If you lose something…same thing. We'll have forms you can fill out to help us find you, if your wayward property turns up. Check back often.

Everyone should come by Center Stage to find out more about Volunteering, LNT, Art, and more information. If you have a medical condition or are taking medications that EMS should know about, come see them at Center Stage. Great place to get out of the sun or the rain too…everyone should drop by Center Stage to say hi and get the lay of the land.

Fake Transformus Invites/Tickets being sold by aphemix@gmail.com

I am writing to let you know that some members of our community bought some fraudulent ticket to Transformus from someone using the email aphemix@gmail.com

I am trying to work out the details now, but it appears that he posted an ad on our classifieds and was emailed by 6 people (that we can tell right now) that ended up purchasing over $1300 worth in total of fake invite codes. He is based in the Pennsylvania area, which is why I am posting this in your group.

I spent a long while yesterday tracking down all the information I could on this scammer and will gladly pass this info along in private, for legal purposes, to anyone that need it. As far as Transformus, LLC, there isn't much legal action we can take since it was not a Transformus sale that took place, but I urge everyone that got got sold fake invites to alert your local authorities and also take action into finding more information about him.

Please contact Jace or Vespa if you have any further questions jace at transformus.com | Also if you are a event organizer or ANYONE that would like the info I have gathered on this individual, please hit me up....and if you happen to know this person personally, I would love to talk more with him about you.

This is what I will post publicly:

he uses the email debivo63@yahoo.com for transactions and paypal payments, we just found out in thye past few minutes that this is in fact his mom's email

his chat nickname on AOL is aphemix

his email in my system is aphemix@gmail.com

His listing on the transformus site has the name Shane

his ip address when he signed up was 76.124.44.94

he is located in Lancaster / Columbia Pennsylvania

the paypal account is DebiVO63@yahoo.com and says the name is Debi Violante, which is his mom

One more note, if you have bought or sold invites, even if you know they are real, please email jace at transformus.com and inform him of this transfer so we have a record of it

UPDATE: I have been in touch with the scammer and he has paid all but 2 people back after the threat of legal action. If anyone else has been taken by this sad individual, please contact Jace!

Sorry for this everyone, wish there weren't people like this in the world.

Play in the Park - poi and other toys - July 4th

I am cross posting this from Todd.
------------------------------------

Hello everyone! Even as I begin writing this letter (and coming off of the high of last night's Kirtan with Krishna Das!) I feel an overwhelming sense of community with you all. Which is exactly what I want to continue to nurture and develop. Sure it's a wonderful experience to teach Flight school but even better is to gather under the warm sun and play together! That's what this is all about to me - building community. =) So this Friday the 4th what better way to celebrate the birth of our nation than by flying your fellow citizens high above you? We're gathering at Piedmont Park at 10AM Friday morning near the Charles Allen Dr. entrance (off of 10th). Continue north from that entrance a ways and you'll easily spot us. Bring something to lay on, blankets, sheets, mats, etc. and ample water. Bring any other play toys, poi, hoops, things to juggle - we'll open our own little circus there. =) The weather looks great, come early before the day grows hot. And remember this is just us having fun, no formal instruction or money or anything. Simply sharing what we love. =)

Also I've updated my web page with pictures from our last Flight School gathering. Go to gnc.net/yoga, click on Flight School, scroll down and click on the date(s) to see the pics.

In other news I'm now able to teach Flight School twice a month at Jai Shanti! So the upcoming dates are:

* July 13
* July 27
* August 10

That's all I've got, hope to see you soon!

So, it will probably be mostly acro-yoga, but there'll be some skilltoys represented none the less.

(x-post) Ride available to Tfus from Atlanta, 7/17, 1-3 people

I'll be leaving Atlanta by 10am on Thursday, heading up early to help set up our theme camp. The people that were riding with me decided not to go so I've got space. Might be best for one passenger since the back is converted to a camper and there are no seats (though if you don't mind I don't mind 2 more people sitting on the bed in the back ;). Just wanting a co-rider to share gas, no 'charge' for riding. I'll be staying in Asheville Sunday night and heading back Monday morning. Let me know if this could work for you!

Burning Man's statement on Transformus 2008

Dear Interested parties and attendees of Transformus:

We write you today to address the recent wave of public comment and
question about the status of Transformus as an official Burning Man
Regional Event. Beginning in March 2008, Burning Man has been in
receipt of multiple comments and complaints regarding certain aspects of
the production of Transformus and as of Monday, June 23, we made an
official statement to the Transformus LLC members regarding this matter.

Transformus is a Burning Man Regional Event that requested and received
its “official” status in 2005, during its first year in existence. As
you may know, any event that is designated as an official Burning Man
Regional Event has a relationship with one or more Burning Man Regional
Contacts, who must agree that the event will uphold and adhere not only
to Burning Man’s Ten Principles
(http://regionals.burningman.com/network_principles.html), but to an
additional set of criteria required by Burning Man designed to assure
that the event is actually legal, permitted, insured, of benefit to the
entire community, and available to all who wish to attend.

Whenever one or more formal complaints are made about an event or a
Regional Contact, Burning Man makes careful effort to address them
directly. There is a process for a formal investigation into the
allegations made in a Regional Contact/Regional Event complaint, one
that includes interviewing and engaging with as many members of the
local community as possible to gather information and make inquiry. (If
you are not familiar with the process to send us feedback about things
happening in your region, please take a look at this page:
http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_feedback.html.)

The member of the Transformus Board of Directors had themselves been
active in asking for support and guidance from Burning Man over the past
several months as the problems with this event came to a head; in fact,
in light of those requests and the comments and complaints we had
received, Burning Man sent its Regional Network Coordinator Bex Workman
to Asheville, NC in April to meet in person with the Transformus Board
of Directors as well as members of the local community to try to gain a
better understanding into the issues the organization was facing and try
to offer some support.

Part of Bex’s purpose on this trip was to obtain information and
background from as many sources as possible, and by sending a staff
member to engage in person we hoped to come to better understand the
ticketing and technology issues with Transformus that had been brought
up for review. This visit was in addition to a number of visits that Bex
had made to the area, including two annual trips to the Transformus
Work/Play weekend, and she and Steven Raspa had both made multiple other
check-in visits with active Transformus community members over the past
3 years. Both individuals had been involved in many emails and phone
conversations and mentoring with various Transformus leadership as welll.

After Bex’s most recent visit, and following months of investigation,
many phone calls, visits and conversations, the Regional Committee has
come to the conclusion that Transformus, as it exists today, has not
been able to operate in full alignment with the principles and criteria
required to be an official Burning Man Regional event in 2008.
Specifically, the investigation has determined that the event has been
unable to uphold the tenets of Civic Responsibility and Transparency.
For example, this was seen in its inability to notify participants of
their invitations in a timely fashion, and to clearly and publicly
illustrate the methodology and fairness of that invitation process – as
of this writing there still seems to be ambiguity and frustration for
some participants, and dissent about the nature of the process, and a
need for a public address of the grievances that have been raised.

One other example is the Board Of Directors’ failure to post timely
and detailed accountings of previous events’ financial reports to the
community, either through the event’s announce list, the regional
announce lists, or through the Transformus website; timely, transparent
accounting is a strong requirement in order to maintain good standing as
a Burning Man Regional Event, but it is especially important when there
have been accusations of inaccuracy in bookkeeping. We have made
recommendations about when and how to share this bookkeeping that have
not been able to be met, although we are aware that the group are still
actively pursuing making this posting.

Among the complaints that were shared with Burning Man, some of the
most prominent were related to incomplete bookkeeping and imprecise
nature of the invitation process. As we understand it, efforts are
underway to remedy this matter, but in the strictest sense, the prior
Transformus events have failed to follow the guidelines outlined by
Burning Man and cannot truly be said to have upheld those standards.

It was a very difficult decision for us to move to suspend Transformus’
official status; however, the value in having and engaging in the
Burning Man Regional Network lies in the ability to truly identify that
certain standards and benchmarks of the Burning Man community are in
place for any event, and if they cannot be met or verified readily by
the casual observer or participant, even by the best efforts of the
persons involved, it is our duty to encourage the production team to act
to bring things back into alignment, as well as to inform the public
about our official position on the event.

In this case, although we do not believe any individual engaged in
wrongdoing, we do believe that the business entity behind Transformus is
clearly faced with a need to stop and reflect, as they have done, and in
the meantime, the current state of affairs has left little choice but to
act to address the complaints and agree that Transformus organization as
it stands is not in a position to be identified officially as a Regional
Event in 2008.

However, although Burning Man has announced that Transformus 2008 will
not qualify for official Regional Event status, we do remain actively
engaged in an effort to encourage and support the Transformus board and
the many people who produce the event, and to assist them in moving
through this period as they reflect on their leadership and determine
the common goal for its future. Although there are transitions and
challenges afoot, we want to make it clear that we believe that there is
ample enthusiasm and dedication to help rally the community to resolve
these issues together and move beyond this conflict; we are confident
that you can and will create an event that your region can be proud of,
and that leadership will guide you through and hold the center, whatever
that turns out to be.

Indeed, the Burning Man Project has every intention of continuing to
offer its support to you, and it is our hope that Transformus will seek
and regain its official Regional Event status in the future. We do still
intend to send several members of our staff to support Transformus this
year; both Bex Workman and Wally Bomgaars aka:Odwally (DMV, Rangers)
will still be sent out to offer their assistance, expertise, and sweat
to help produce Transformus, just as had been previously planned; Ranger
Splinter is also still planning to conduct a Ranger Training at the event.

We also remain eager to help to connect all interested parties with any
others in the Burning Man Regional Network who might offer their insight
and assistance through their similar experiences, whoever they may be.
We are in frequent communication with the Burning Man regional contacts
in the area who are involved and concerned about this event. Regional
Contacts are individuals who have satisfied a set of established
leadership criteria to be a contact point in a particular area, and
we’re depending on them to help translate Burning Man's expectations to
the communities they represent and to let us know what other support we
might provide. Truly, although we know the ultimate solutions are up to
the community, we still want to be as supportive as possible if we can.

However, we know that the biggest component in Transformus (the event)
solving its current spate of issues is Transformus -- the community --
deciding together to figure out how to solve them. We’ve never seen it
as our place to tell another event what to do, even those within our
“Network” – we offer what we offer by way of affiliation or relationship
and shared principles, not by ownership or dictation. Our desire to help
is not about us illustrating what “we” think “you” should do – it’s

about us sharing what our experiences have been with you, introducing
you and connecting you to others with similar experiences, and offering
whatever we do know about building community and about producing events.

In this case that experience tells us that when things go off course
and personal actions are in doubt, it helps for everyone to reflect on
their shared values, sometimes in a public process, and this can help
you to see what you can do to get back to them, together.
And yes, we have the Ten Principles, and perhaps those are a place to
start a discussion, but we trust that there are many viewpoints and sets
of ideals among those who would consider themselves participants at
Transformus. Thus, we won’t deign to try to ascribe those values to
everyone who attends that event, but we do offer them as a place to
start, especially since we’ve found them useful so often ourselves.

Burning Man isn't trying to tell Transformus that we have the solution
for them, although we believe that we have tried to offer some input and
possible solutions for consideration. Ours is not to direct, dictate,
nor even to suggest what you should do in your local groups from all the
way over here in San Francisco, and no matter how many staff members we
send to visit, we only know what you and your community are telling us,
but ultimately the solutions are up to you. Either way, we’re certain
you’ll still come together and make Transformus great this year, and we
are eager to see what the future will bring.

In closing, I’d like to again emphasize that this decision was based on
careful investigation of a mass of shifting facts and information, and
was only designed to try to help the Transformus Board Of Directors and
all of you move towards building a strong community and producing an
event supporting the values of that community. We do not believe anyone
should pull out of their participation or stop working on or planning to
attend Transformus 2008 solely because of this decision on the behalf of
the Regional Network’s official event requirements. Indeed, the primary
purpose in building the Regional Network has been to facilitate a
connection amongst all of us, and we are in no way trying to negate the
importance of Transformus and its participants or its organizers as
members of the Burning Man community.

As such, we hope that it is understood by all that the Burning Man
Project will remain available to your community for questions, comments,
or support as we can offer it (remember this is a particularly busy time
for our production staff as we near the creation of Black Rock City),
and that we do believe that Transformus will find its way to the future
Self reflection and self improvement are values that can never been
underestimated in helping manifest change.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us
directly via: regionals@burningman.com

Sincerely,

Transformus Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange

I am happy to announce that the Chill Spin Skillz Exchange will be returning to Transformus 08!

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.

So what do you have to share?

Transformus No Longer A Regional Burn!!!!

Dear Mysterians,

It is with great sadness and discomfort that I announce Transformus is no longer an official Burning Man Regional Event. The Transformus Board of Directors received an e-mail from Andi Grace of Burning Man last night stating that there had been complaints made by the community. The decision to change Transformus' s status as an official burn was based on the BOD's lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency. An official statement will be released from Burning Man soon entailing all of the details in depth and their reasoning. It will also lay out the process necessary to regain or retain our status as a sanctioned Regional Burn.

The Transformus BOD would like to let everyone know that at no point in time did we mean for any of this to happen. We did our best to make sense of the madness that has occurred this year leading up to Transformus 2008. We apologize to the community for our break down in communication and our botched ticketing system. We are just a group of normal people, who tried to the best of our abilities to bring you a successful event. We are only human and the lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency was never, at any point in time, meaningfully sought out.

As many of you know, several members of the Transformus BOD have resigned. We thank them for their time, energy and devotion to this event. However, moving forward, there will be a lot of changes that will take place after Transformus 2008, and we are looking to this community to foster and implement those changes. The BOD opens the gates to the community as to where the future lies in running this event after Transformus 2008. For those of you who have wanted answers, decisions, and change, I ask you to step up to the challenge of making Transformus the way the community wants it to evolve. There are still just a few BOD members, including myself, that will help facilitate the means to making the situation at hand better after the event. Until that day and time, I respectfully and earnestly ask all of you to bring positivity and not negativity to our community.

Finally, for all of those in the community who wanted action and change, here is your opportunity to do something. The event is less than a month out ,and we can come out of the darkness and produce a great event that is fun, meaningful, transformative. ..not just a party in the woods. To all of you who are still coming and making it to Transformus 2008, we want to personally thank you for believing in the magical place known as Mysteria. Despite all the drama, anger, and confusion, we will rise to make Transformus 2008, the best one to date.

Positively Yours,
Blitz: Kamp Krieg fundraiser July 3-6

Blitz – the benefit party weekend for Kamp Krieg

Blitz is a camping holiday weekend celebration being held on 10 acres of woodlands near Siler City, NC July 3-6. We're bringing the fire, debauchery, food, thumpa-thumpa, trampolines, boffer swords, and more. It's all burner tested, burner approved. Our Grill Master will be preparing tasty foods for your enjoyment, in both carnivorous and hippie varieties. Our party veterans will ensure you remain properly "hydrated" at all times. All proceeds contribute directly to your enjoyment of Kamp Krieg at numerous regional burns.

We know you're gonna have as much fun coming as we will putting it on, but don't forget the important things: Costumes, Art, Blinkies, Musical Instruments, Fire Toys, and anything else you need to get your creative spirit fired up.

This is a primitive camping LNT event . Unless you bring your mama, YOU are responsible for cleaning up after yourself, including removing your trash from the site. There is no car camping, but vehicles will be parked inside Gate.

All attendees must be 18+: a valid photo ID must be presented at Gate. NO EXCEPTIONS. Only ticket holders with a valid photo ID will be granted entrance to Blitz. You will receive directions to the site and specific details about this unforgettable event. Due to space limitations, Blitz is capped at 200 people, so tickets are very likely to sell out. Please do not forward directions or details to non-ticket holders.

Tickets are available in Greensboro, NC by calling 336.669.6964 or online for $20 from now until July 1st. www.BrownPaperTickets.com/event/37256 After July 1, all remaining tickets will be available first-come, first-served at $30 each.

The following can be posted to all who may wish to come...

A message from the Cap'n

For $325, PLAYAtrans, a private, non-profit, transportation group will get your 3x3x5 foot no heavier than 500 pound box of goodies to Black Rock this year. What is needed is a small mass of crazies and all there crazy garb, or at least what will fit into a specified amount of space. This can be anything that can be legally shipped across state lines. There will be a few meetings to discuss where the truck will be located when you arrive. The info you need now is below.

June 30 deposit is due

July 31 Balance is due.

On Aug. 19 ALL gear will be at the staging area. non-negotiable.

On Aug. 20 a 24ft. box truck will be leaving for the playa. roughly around 7pm. 2585 miles later and around midnight sunday, truck arrives at playa and heads to rendezvous point...all gear begins to be unloaded by drivers.

Truck will remain parked for the duration of its and the drivers stay...the exodus hour will be determined at a later meeting of all involved.

Truck leaves at agreed upon time...YOU GEAR MUST BE AT THAT LOCATION AT LEAST 12 HOURS PRIOR.

At some time about 4-5 days later the truck arrives back in the ATL and will proceed to the gear removal point.

On Sept. 8 ( one week after leaving the playa) at 8 am the truck is back at the rental yard.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

well....

for $325.00* (american), you will get to put up to a 3x3x5 foot space of stuff. this is roughly 45 cu.ft. you can put water, food(non-perishable), a bike, tent, clothes/costumes...pretty much anything other than you. how do you figure the size of your stuff? pile it up, and measure it. 3 feet x 3 feet x 5 feet, and no heavier than 500 lbs.

WOW! How can I make this happen?
&
